Introduction
Windows Server 2008 (sometimes abbreviated as "Win2K8" or "W2K8") is one of Microsoft Windows' server line of operating systems. Released to manufacturing on February 4, 2008, and officially released on February 27, 2008, it is the successor to Windows Server 2003, released nearly five years earlier. A second release, named Windows Server 2008 R2, was released to manufacturing on July 22, 2009

ensure that C:\BUILTIN\Users have Read access.
Windows 2008 R2 Repair boot (try 1)
- Boot from your Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 DVD
- On the first screen of Setup choose Next
- In the lower left of the screen choose "repair your computer"
- On the System Recovery Options screen choose your installation of Windows and then click next
- Click "Command prompt"
- Go to X:\sources\recovery> startrep.exe
- This will take a while but will address any registry related issues.
Windows 2008 R2 Repair boot (try 2)
- Boot from your Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 DVD
- On the first screen of Setup choose Next
- In the lower left of the screen choose "repair your computer"
- On the System Recovery Options screen choose your installation of Windows and then click next
- Click "Command prompt"
- Type in the following command: SFC.EXE /scannow /offbootdir:c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows
- When complete type in exit to see if Windows starts up now.
